Logging In to Canvas

The first step is to open ucdenver.instructure.com and click Username or email

Type in your CU Denver Username or email

Type in your CU Denver Password

Click Login

After clicking login you will be directed to your Canvas Dashboard where you can access your online course.

Loading a Course Template from Canvas Commons

The first step is to open Canvas and click on Common

Updating your Canvas Home Page

The first step is to open Dashboard

Scroll down and clickon on your Canvas Course Shell

Read and explore the home page template before edit it

Click Edit

Click to select the title box

Type in to update the Page Title

Scroll down and with your mouse, select text in Navy and delete it.

Scroll down to "Contact Me Here" and update the fields with your information.

Uploading and Sharing Files in Canvas

If you'd like to upload readings or other files to your Canvas course, click Files.

To create a folder, click Add Folder

Type in your Folder Name

Click Accept

To add a file to your folder, click on the folder you created.

Click Upload to select the file you want to upload to Canvas from your computer.

To add the file to the home page, click Home

Click Edit to edit a page in Canvas.

Click your cursor on the page where you want to list your reading.

Click the file link.

A link to download the reading will appear on the page. Once you are finished, click Save.

Students will now be able to click the link to download the reading.

Creating and Editing an Announcements

To add a new discussion click Discussions

Click Add Discussion

Title your discussion.

You can add text in the text editor.

To add an image to your post that you uploaded to your files, click Images

Click the image you wish to embed on the page.

To resize your image on the page, with your mouse, click on the corner of the image while holding the button down and drag your cursor inward.

Type in what you want to search for in the search bar and Press Enter

To embed your video on the page, click Embed.

To record a video from your computer, click the Record/Upload Media button.

Or click Mic to record audio from your builtin mic.

You can preview your recording before your post by clicking the play button.

You can choose from the options and assign a grade to your discussion if desired. click Points to choose how you display your grade.

Publishing Your Course

The first step is to open SEHD Community Hub and click Settings

You can change the image for the course that shows up on the Canvas Dashboard if you wish.

You can update the Name to match your course.

You can update the Course Code to match your course.

Scroll down and click Starts: to update the start date for your course.

Click Ends: to update the end date for your course.

Scroll down and click Update Course Details to save any changes you make before you leave the page.

To publish your course, click Home

Finish publishing the course by clicking Publish.
